PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
The North Side High School additions and renovations represent
an extremely complicated and compressed project within an
existing urban environment. Members of ForeSight Consulting
were responsible for the project design, and the firm served
as the certifying engineer and engineer of record for the
project while employed with another firm and working with
Fort Wayne Community Schools, Schenkel Shultz Architecture,
and Place Design and Graphics.
The original North Side High School was erected in the
1920s and expanded a number of times over the years, but
the school
was in need of a significant expansion and renovation to
meet the current needs of the school, staff, and students.
From the onset, care and consideration of the adjoining
neighborhood residences and businesses were foremost in the
master plan
of the developed complex. The resulting master plan provided
for improved parking facilities, pedestrian access, and
bus movement to and from the expanded North Side High School
facility.
In light of the expanse of the additions and renovations
and the increased parking facilities, a nontraditional
approach to storm-water management was employed to address
the requirements
of the City of Fort Wayne. ForeSight initiated several
meetings with the various city agencies to review the
project and
any issues or concerns that they had regarding the development
of the project. As a result of these efforts, the project
was processed and approved by the city in an expedited
manner.
ForeSight continues to enjoy an excellent relationship
with Fort Wayne Community Schools, Schenkel Shultz
Architecture, and Place Design and Graphics, and ForeSight
looks forward
to its next project with these organizations. |
